Fairytale of Berlin
Scion Presents: Fairytale of Berlin from Scion ART on Vimeo.
SCION PRESENTS “FAIRYTALE OF BERLIN”
An exhibition by Janine Bean and Matthias Bergemann
Scion, in conjunction with Janine Bean and Matthias Bergemann from Janine Bean Gallery in Berlin, presents “Fairytale of Berlin” at its 4,500 square foot Installation L.A. Gallery. The exhibition explores the legend of creative life within Berlin’s sub-cultural niches.
For this exhibition, the artists and curators will tell their own “Fairytale of Berlin” through their diverse perspectives. The 11 artists and one artist group will display paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and installations. The artists are: Erik Andersen, Paula Bogati, Vanessa von Heydebreck, Franziska Klotz, Mari Lou, Iva Vacheva, Ingo Mittelstaedt, Christl Mudrak, Irene Pätzug, Thomas Stüssi and the duo of neulantvanexel, Marian Neulant and Axel van Exel.
Berlin attracts artists with its substantial network—affordable apartments and studios, along with private and public international institutions eager to support artists of all backgrounds. The city’s creative utopia, with its solid infrastructure as well as a stirring subculture, attracts artists from America, England, and Spain, and has become more than a myth. The show will look at the consequences, both good and bad, of what happens when aspiration and reality collide in this setting.
